A group of UOIT students against tuition hikes are ready to take their campaign to the provincial level. They want to see tuition dropped to 2005 levels across the province, immediate debt relief for all Ontario students and they want international student fees regulated. Drop Tuition UOIT Organizer Jesse Cullen says current measures like the Ontario tuition rebate grant isn’t enough. “It’s not automatic. It’s actually a rebate you get after you pay your tuition,” Cullen said. “If you’re a mature student, you’re an international student or you’re in a professional program or you haven’t applied or the litany of other reasons why you don’t qualify for this program, it actually amounts to 75 per cent of Ontario students have not been able to take advantage of this grant.” To end this year, the group will present their “Fairness for International Students” petition to the board of governors on Thursday. They’re hoping the board will agree to a one year freeze of international student fees.
